########################################### # Elated PageKits: http://www.elated.com/ # ########################################### This is the README file for the Elated PageKit: "Hard a Port(al)" Please see the Copyright and Usage Agreement sections at the end of this file for copyright information and terms of use. Introduction ------------ The idea behind the Elated PageKits is that you can either use the ideas here as is, and develop them from our startpoints, or you can take the bits that you need (like the basic frameset) and customise them for your own use. We hope you'll also find the PageKits educational. Obviously, to make the best use of them you'll need to know some basic HTML. About This PageKit ------------------ This PageKit is kind of a departure for us - a more general, less arty Kit aiming to give you the basis of a "portal" kind of site with loads of info on the frontpage and spaces for small ads on the right etc. Let us know if you like it at http://www.elated.com/ at the forums. The other unusual thing is that we've only supplied one page for you as the menus are so customisable. To get a full site going, you'll need to change those top options in the menus to whatever you want and then create pages using "page.html" as a basic template. You can add menu items until you run out of space! We've given you a bunch of titles to get going with as well. They're in the iamges folder. On the index page, your image you slot in should be 297 pixels wide. This was created on a G3 Mac with photoshop 4 and simpletext. The photo used is a detail of a photo taken by us of a record player. It is © Elated 2000. The font for the headers is just arial size 75 point. Hints & Tips ------------ The menus are completely customisable as they are just text, not images. The font size and face is controlled by a stylesheet linked to from the pages and the link colours are implemented from a small stylesheet within the pages themselves. If you want to change the font size and shape go to default.css and edit this: body { font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; } td { font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; } a:link {color: E6BD10; font-family: variable; text-decoration: none} a:visited {color: E6BD10; font-family: variable; text-decoration: none} a:active {color: #ffffff; font-family: variable; text-decoration: none} A:hover {text-decoration: none; color: #ffffff} ...to be whatever you want for colours, links etc, being careful to preserve the syntax. PSD files up at the Elated site so you can change those menu options. Copyright --------- The contents of this PageKit, including all HTML and images, is copyright Elated Communications Ltd 1997-2001. Usage Agreement --------------- By downloading any of the material from our site, http://www.elated.com/, you agree to abide by the conditions of the Usage Agreement, available online at: http://www.elated.com/usage/ Specifically: "The Pagekits are free to use on any type of site, provided you do not redistribute them in any form on the Web or on a CD-ROM (whether for free or for profit). They are free for "end-users" only. What this means in English is that if you're a business wanting to use a Pagekit for your own bar/bookshop/restaurant etc, then that's fine, even if you're taking money over the site. What's not fine is if you're a web designer using a Pagekit to produce a website for a client, whether you're getting paid for it or not. You may also not take Kits (or any of the free stuff) and put them up on your site for download or examples. The above legalese element is legally binding and failing to comply means you are infringing international copyright law." And Finally... -------------- There are many more Kits of varying kinds as well as some Web Design tips at our website: http://www.elated.com/ We don't really offer tech support for the PageKits as we are constantly busy with updating the site, but we do want them to be a good as possible for you all, so if you run into problems or have any other questions relating to the PageKits, you can use our PageKits Help Forum at: http://www.elated.com/forums/ Search for your PageKits question there, or post a new question and we'll do our best to help you. It's free to register and post questions! Have fun and see you on the site. Best wishes, The Elated Team. ELATED :) Love Your Site -----------------------------------------------
